Because of its low original yield strength, aluminium 6111 has the characteristics of easy stamping and small spring back, relatively less die loss, easy shape control of sheet metal parts after stamping.
And in the stage of baking paint after forming, the strength of 6111 can be greatly improved due to the precipitation strengthening effect of heating at a constant temperature (about 170°C, 30min). The above advantages make AA6111 aluminum alloy one of the most popular materials for automobile body sheet metal, with strong commercial potential.
Among the 5000 series alloys, 5023 with high magnesium content has high strength and good formability. But it is sensitive to intergranular corrosion. Aluminum 5182 has medium magnesium content. It has good intergranular corrosion performance and good formability.
In terms of deep processing performance and tensile strength, 5052 aluminum alloy is far inferior to 5182 alloy. Therefore, the preferred aluminum alloy material for complex deep-drawing inner panels of automobiles is 5182-O aluminum thin plate.
5182 aluminum is a typical aluminum-magnesium alloy with good processing and forming properties, corrosion resistance and good weldability. Mg dissolves in the Al matrix to form solid solution strengthening, which makes the alloy have the characteristics of general steel in terms of yield strength, tensile strength, formability and corrosion resistance. Therefore, some countries choose 5000 series aluminum alloys( 5022, 5023, 5182) as automotive inner panel materials.
