Which Aluminum Alloys Are Cars Made From

The 5000 aluminum alloy grades with different magnesium contents can be used to make different parts of car body. 5182 alloy with high magnesium content has high strength and good formability, but is more sensitive to intergranular corrosion; 5754 aluminum with medium magnesium content has good intergranular corrosion resistance and good formability; 5052 aluminum with low magnesium content has low strength.

AW5754 is an aluminum-magnesium alloy with the highest aluminum content. It can be rolled, forged, and extruded. 5754 h14 is its common temper. This alloy is also a non-heat-treatable aluminum alloy that can be strengthened by cold working, but has low ductility. In addition, this type of alloy has excellent corrosion resistance and high strength.

The magnesium alloy content of 5754 aluminum plate is between 2.6-3.6, with good anti-rust and corrosion resistance, no color difference on the anodized surface, and excellent processing performance. 5754 aluminum plate is used in door panels, engine covers, or trunk covers.

The gearbox is the vehicle's nervous system, responsible for coordinating the vehicle's speed change, torque change, reversing and other actions. As the material of the gearbox housing, 5754 aluminum plate not only has good corrosion resistance and weldability, but is also easier to process and form, providing a solid guarantee for the stable operation of the vehicle.

All-aluminum body buses have obvious advantages in body hardness, corrosion resistance, weight reduction, and economy. Aluminum alloys are recognized by many bus companies as the first choice for the body of new energy buses due to their superior strength, lightweight characteristics, flexible design, high corrosion resistance, and high recycling rate.

5052 aluminum bending is used in the body skin of a large new energy bus. The bus skin is made of Haomei 5052-H32 aluminum sheet with a thickness of 1.5mm. 5052 aluminum sheet is an aluminum-magnesium alloy aluminum sheet with high strength, especially fatigue strength, plasticity and corrosion resistance.

5052 aluminum sheet also contains a small amount of chromium. The role of chromium is similar to that of manganese. It can improve the stress corrosion cracking resistance of the base material and weld, improve the strength of the base material and weld, and reduce the tendency of welding cracks. These properties meet the corrosion resistance and fatigue strength requirements of bus body panel.
