AA3003 Aluminum for Battery Containers in Electric Cars

The so-called automobile lightweight means reducing the weight of the entire vehicle as much as possible while ensuring the strength and performance of the vehicle, thereby improving the vehicle's power, reducing fuel consumption, and reducing exhaust pollution. As a high-performance material, AA 3003 aluminum has become the preferred material for battery containers in electric cars due to its excellent formability and corrosion resistance.

3003 aluminium alloy has good formability and is mainly used in deep drawing materials. It has excellent corrosion resistance. Its corrosion resistance in the atmosphere and seawater is comparable to that of pure aluminum. Its corrosion resistance in dilute hydrochloric acid solution (1:5) is higher than that of pure aluminum but lower than that of aluminum-magnesium alloy.

The power battery shell made of 3003 aluminum alloy products is impact-resistant, not easy to crack and leak, and can meet the requirements of power battery shell for strength and rigidity. The low density and light weight of aluminum alloy can reduce the weight of the battery, increase the battery capacity density, make the battery work stably, indirectly reduce the weight of the whole vehicle, and increase the vehicle endurance.

Compared with stainless steel shell, the use of 3003 aluminum can omit the battery container bottom welding process. In addition, since the boiling point temperatures of aluminum and manganese are not much different, there will be no problems such as the quality of the weld being reduced due to the burning of metal elements during welding.

In addition to 3003 aluminum sheet, 5xxx aluminum alloys are often used in the automobile panel making like 5052 and 5182 aluminum. In terms of deep drawing performance and tensile strength, 5052 aluminum alloy is far inferior to 5182 alloy. Therefore, the preferred aluminum alloy material for complex automobile deep drawing inner panels is 5182-O thin aluminum sheet.

5182 aluminum alloy is a medium-strength aluminum alloy with excellent forming performance, corrosion resistance, weldability and fatigue resistance, and is particularly suitable for automobile body panels, roof panels, engine hoods and other parts. Its excellent corrosion resistance ensures the stability and durability of the automobile under various climatic conditions, while its good weldability ensures the processability and efficiency of automobile manufacturing.
