Aluminum Application in Automotive Industry

The reason of aluminum application in automotive industry is based on its advantages of low density (about 1/3 of steel materials), high specific strength, excellent corrosion resistance, easy processing and recyclability. 5052 aluminum sheet has a higher strength to weight ratio than mild steel. Therefore, 5052 aluminum sheets are often used in larger vehicle extrusion areas. The use of this metal in larger crush areas not only increases safety, but also improves car performance as well.

Firstly, the weight reduction allows for shorter stopping distances. After all, we all know that a short stopping distance can be the difference between a mistake or a fatal collision. Secondly, when comparing the strength-to-weight ratio of metals, the properties of 5052 aluminum allow it to absorb twice the impact energy of mild steel.

At present, 6061 aluminum plate is widely used in automobile fenders. 6061 aluminum plate has good mechanical properties, its density is only 1/3 of steel, and its machinability is 4.5 times that of iron. 6061 aluminum alloy car fenders neither increase the weight of the vehicle, but also avoid damage to the car.

The oxide film formed on the surface of the 6061 aluminum plate can prevent the fender from rusting. There are also 6061 aluminum plates can anodized into various colors, which ensures that the appearance of the car fender is more fashionable and beautiful.

Under the hood are all important parts of the car, including the engine, circuit, oil circuit, brake system and transmission system, etc., which are crucial to the vehicle. By improving the strength and structure of the hood, it can fully prevent adverse effects such as impact, corrosion, rain, and electrical interference, and fully protect the normal operation of the vehicle. The aluminum alloys used for the engine cover include 6111 aluminum plate, 6016 aluminum plate and 5182 aluminum plate.
