6016 Aluminum Used in Automotive Industry

6009, 6010 and 6016 aluminum alloys are currently used for exterior and interior panels of automobile bodies due to their good plasticity and the ability to achieve high strength through artificial aging during the paint-baking process after forming. The body panels of the Audi A8 are made of this series of aluminum alloys.

6016 aluminum alloy is is widely used in ABS, but the heat treatment process is complicated, and pre-aging treatment T4P must be performed between solution treatment and paint treatment to obtain good performance. Because it should have good formability before stamping, and can rapidly increase the strength during the paint baking process after stamping, so as to have high dent resistance.

Al6016 is also used to make anti-collision beam. Compared with the steel plate front anti-collision beam assembly, the use of 6016 aluminum alloys to manufacture the front anti-collision beam not only greatly reduces the weight, but also improves the anti-collision effect.
