6014 aluminum is a 6xxx aluminum alloy with both magnesium and silicon. It originally received its standard designation in 1983. In European standards, it will be given as EN AW-6014. A96014 is the UNS number. It is applicable for automotive exterior parts such as hood cover, roof panel, car door, truck lid, fender, etc.

1. Its density is low, greatly reducing the weight of cars.
2. It has excellent shock absorption and can withstand greater impact and vibration.
3. It has good specific strength and rigidity.
It can be recycled and reused and its energy consumed for recycling is relatively small.
In recent years, many domestic researches on deformed automotive aluminum sheets have been conducted. The formability problem should be solved, and then a large number of tests of the pretreatment process have be carried out to improves its performances such as bake hardening and dent resistance.
Production cost and automotive aluminum price are two main factors that affect the application of automotive aluminum sheet. With the increase in car aluminum sheet production and automotive application and the decline in manufacturing process costs, the cost of aluminum stamping parts will drop significantly.
The related research shows that when the output of a car model rises from 60,000 to 193,500, the cost of manufacturing and assembly of aluminum alloy materials will drop by 40%.
Among the aluminium in cars, aluminum sheets account for 20%( aluminum body panels and structural parts),extrusion materials account for 12% (bumpers, reinforcements, etc.),castings account for 65% (wheels, transmission system shells, brake component etc.), forgings accounted for 3% (mainly suspension supports, pistons, etc.).
The use of aluminum instead of steel can reduce the weight of the white body by up to 50%, thereby reducing the weight of the entire vehicle by 20% to 30%.
