In the process of the automotive industry's continuous pursuit of lightweight and high performance, aluminum alloys play an increasingly critical role. 6101 and 6016 aluminum alloys are outstanding representatives of them. They play an important role in the automotive field with their unique properties.
6101 aluminum plate belongs to American deformed aluminum alloy and is a high-strength conductive material. In its chemical composition, aluminum (Al) is the remainder, occupying the main component and providing the basic characteristics of the alloy. The silicon (Si) content is between 0.30 - 0.7, iron (Fe) ≤0.50, copper (Cu) ≤0.10, manganese (Mn) ≤0.03, magnesium (Mg) is 0.35 - 0.8, chromium (Cr) ≤0.03, zinc (Zn) ≤0.10, and boron (B) ≤0.06.
This alloy has excellent electrical conductivity, can guarantee a conductivity of 55% IACS, and performs well in power transmission. It also has good corrosion resistance and weldability. After proper heat treatment process, 6101 aluminum alloy can obtain high strength and hardness, with yield strength usually between 150-240MPa and tensile strength generally between 230-280MPa. Its elongation is between 12%-20%, and hardness ranges from 50-70HRB.
In the automotive field, 6101 aluminum alloy can be used to manufacture automotive electrical wires and other parts. Due to its good processing performance, it can be manufactured into the required shape and size through various forming processes to meet the production needs of complex automotive parts. In some automotive electronic equipment connection parts with high conductivity requirements, 6101 aluminum alloy is an ideal material, ensuring stable current transmission while having a certain strength to ensure component durability.
6016 aluminum alloy is developed by ALCOA and is a new type of medium-strength Al-Mg-Si-Cu aluminum alloy. Its aluminum (Al) is the remainder, the silicon (Si) content is 1.0-1.5, iron (Fe) ≤0.50, copper (Cu) ≤0.20, manganese (Mn) ≤0.20, magnesium (Mg) is 0.25-0.6, chromium (Cr) ≤0.10, zinc (Zn) ≤0.20, titanium (Ti) ≤0.15.
AA6016 aluminum has good fracture toughness, corrosion resistance and fatigue resistance, excellent formability, and significant paint hardening effect. Its corrosion resistance is better than that of high-strength 7XXX series alloys, and its strength is higher than that of ordinary 6XXX series alloys, while maintaining good corrosion resistance and formability.
In the automotive industry, 6016 aluminum alloy is widely used in automobile body panels, especially exterior panels such as engine hoods, doors, trunk lids, and roofs. Taking door manufacturing as an example, the good formability of 6016 aluminum alloy enables it to easily shape complex door shapes to meet the diverse needs of automobile design. Moreover, during the paint hardening process, it can further improve the strength and enhance the durability of the door.
The 6016-O aluminum alloy has the softest texture and is suitable for various bending and shaping processes. For parts of automobile body panels that require complex bending shapes, such as the contour lines on the side of the body, it can also complete the processing well.
